Products
Industrial Sieves
 Sieves are used where raw materials or finished products require sorting by size. Typical industries served include foundries, agriculture, ceramics, fisheries and abrasive manufacture. Sieves are supplied in 16" to 24" diameter and the mesh can be from greater than one inch to a few microns in size. The rims are made from either beechwood or plastic. The mesh can be mild or stainless steel, brass, copper or nylon. Specialist sieves for shrimps, prawns and other shellfish feature a rectangular handwoven mesh. A re-meshing service is also available for industrial screens.

Traditional Garden Riddles
 These are hand crafted using 18" diameter beechwood rims fitted with heavy duty steel wire mesh with spacing of ½", 3/8", ¼" or 1/8". These are used for removing stones from soil, cleaning gravel for paths, cleaning and storing vegetables and providing a fine layer of soil for sowing seeds. We have a special 8" diameter sieve with 1/8" mesh used for preparing seed trays.

Kitchen Sieves
 These are hand made in a range of diameters (from 8" to 20") and are used for sieving flour, sugar, vegetable and meat stocks etc. The rim is either beechwood or plastic fitted with stainless steel or nylon mesh.

Potters' Sieves
 Pottery glazes usually made from a dispersion of a powdered glaze into a liquid medium. To avoid disfiguration of the fired ceramic it is essential to remove any particles of glaze left in the liquid prior to application. Our range of hand made potters' sieves are ideal for this purpose. They have wooden rims in 6", 8" and 10" diameter fitted with stainless steel mesh (from 30 to 200 mesh size). We also offer a 3" diameter cup lawn which is used when only a small amount of glaze is needed.

 We have a wide range of wire meshes and are happy to quote for any quantity -large mesh producers will often demand a minimum order value, at Hill & Sons we will supply even very small quantities at a competitive price.

We steam and bend our own wooden sieve rims, and offer a service to those requiring bent wood for purposes including classic car restoration, making Romany caravans, cartwheels and architectural woodwork. | |
